Dunbeholden find unlikely hero
Down 1-0 to Vere United in the Monday night game at the Ashenheim Stadium, Dunbeholden desperately needed a goal with time elapsing in the second half.
It was, however, an unlikely hero in Rohan Brown who popped up with goals in the 67th minute and added time to help the St Catherine-based Dunbeholden overturn the result and claim a 3-1 victory, which kept their chances of a top-six berth alive.
Coach Harold Thomas said although the player has not started much this season, he knew the game called for the qualities of Brown to make a difference.
"He is a hungry player. He always wants it, but he has not played a lot of minutes this season. We knew his intensity would affect the game and get us the goals," Thomas stated.
Brown admitted to being ready to fight for Dunbeholden after getting advice from his coach before his entry.
"The coach told me I needed to go out and get a few goals, and I went out and did just that.
"I was really up for the challenge because the top six is the major focus for us at this time, and we had to get the three points, and we are hoping the same (result) for the next game," Brown said.
Brown is comfortable coming off the bench, as he doesn't mind not being a starter as long as he can contribute to Dunbeholden ambitions.
"It doesn't matter if I come off the bench or start because either way, I give my full hundred out there, so that is the focus right now.
"I just need to help my team get into the top six. We are a bit off, and our chance may not look so good, but we will keep believing until the end because that is our focus, and we hope to cross that bridge," he stated.
