Rebel Salute 2026 in Jamaica called off following Hurricane Melissa
The organisers of Rebel Salute have announced the cancellation of Rebel Salute 2026 in Jamaica, citing the severe impact of Hurricane Melissa and the need to prioritise public safety and the long-term future of the festival.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, organisers said the decision was taken after careful assessment of the damage caused by the hurricane, including its effects on infrastructure, logistics and surrounding communities.
"Rebel Salute remains committed to being a trusted and safe space for music, family and community, grounded in cultural integrity," the statement said. "Safeguarding the long-term legacy of the show is the most responsible path forward at this time."
Hurricane Melissa, which recently affected several parishes across the island, caused widespread disruption, leaving organisers unable to guarantee the standards and conditions the iconic festival is known for.
Founded by reggae artiste Tony Rebel, Rebel Salute has earned a reputation as one of Jamaica's most respected music festivals, celebrated for its conscious music, family-friendly atmosphere and strong cultural values.
Organisers acknowledged the disappointment the cancellation may bring to fans, artistes and stakeholders locally and overseas, but stressed that proceeding under the current circumstances would compromise the integrity and safety of the event.
The public was thanked for its patience, understanding and continued support as the festival navigates what organisers described as a challenging period.
No announcement has yet been made regarding a new date, but organisers reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the festival's legacy and ensuring that when Rebel Salute returns, it will do so in keeping with its founding principles.
