Man charged after allegedly collecting $8M to import truck that never came

A Kingston businessman who allegedly collected over $8 million to import a high-end pickup truck has now found himself in hot water with the law after the vehicle reportedly never showed up.

Kevaughn Black, 36, of Tunbridge Terrace in Kingston 6, has been charged with fraudulent conversion following an investigation into payments made for the importation of a 2021 Toyota Hilux GR Sport.

Reports are that the complainant had expressed interest in purchasing the luxury motor vehicle for $8,750,000. It is alleged that a $4 million cash down payment was handed over to Black, who issued a receipt and reportedly promised that the vehicle would arrive within nine weeks.

Police say the complainant was later contacted on December 12, 2025, and told that the vehicle had arrived in the island. Believing the deal was progressing, the complainant allegedly made a second $4 million payment toward the purchase.

However, investigators say the vehicle was never delivered. The complainant was reportedly given repeated assurances that the pickup was being cleared and would soon be ready for collection.

Authorities said the situation escalated on January 28, 2026, when Black allegedly again promised that the vehicle would be handed over. When this failed to happen, the complainant requested a refund. Police say Black reportedly promised to return the money on February 2 and February 3, but no repayment was made.

The matter was later reported to the police, prompting an investigation.

Lawmen said Black turned himself in at the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Investigations Branch on February 12, accompanied by his attorney. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged following a question-and-answer session.

His court date is currently being finalised.
