Bar owner busted with ganja, fake liquor and uncustomed cigarettes
A snap police raid at a bar in Old Harbour Bay has landed the operator in hot water after officers allegedly uncovered ganja, counterfeit liquor and dozens of uncustomed cigarettes.
Kemelia Smith, 37, of Old Harbour Bay, has been charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, possession of uncustomed goods and breaches of the Customs and Excise Duty Act.
Reports are that about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, police personnel from the Old Harbour Bay Police Station carried out a snap raid at a bar along Terminal Road in the community.
During a search of the establishment, officers allegedly found 37 sticks of uncustomed Sunni cigarettes and 17 transparent bags containing vegetable matter resembling ganja.
The police also reportedly seized five cups of ganja, along with a container containing about 28 ounces of the drug.
The haul allegedly included liquor suspected to be counterfeit — two 750ml bottles bearing counterfeit rum and another 750ml bottle of counterfeit Campari liquor.
Smith, who operates the bar, was arrested during the operation and subsequently charged.
She is to face the allegations in court.
