U17 Girlz drub SVG

Jamaica moved to the top of Group D of the Concacaf Women's Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers in Aruba yesterday after drubbing St Vincent and the Grenadines 5-0 at the Stadion Guillermo Prospero Trinidad in Aruba.

The young Reggae Girlz got off the mark when their opponents presented them with an own goal in the 38th minute. Three minutes later Jaya Lecky converted a penalty as Jamaica led 2-0 at the break.

Eight minutes into the second half Malayna Johnson-Mighty placed a right-footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner to give Jamaica a 3-0 lead. The last two goals were scored a minute apart. In the 67th minute, Kalila Daley's left-footed shot found the bottom left corner of the goal and a minute later Shennell Walters completed the scoring with a right-footed shot which found the the bottom right corner.

Jamaica are on seven points from three matches in the group, a point ahead of Honduras who are on six from two games. The six group winners and the two best second-place finishers will advance to the final round. These eight nations will join the USA, Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico in a 12-team tournament.

The 12 teams will be split into three groups with the three group winners and the best second overall advancing to the 2026 FIFA Women's Under-17 World Cup in Morocco.
