Police say a Clarendon man was tracked down and arrested after investigators allegedly found his identification inside a knapsack alongside stolen items at a Mandeville house that was broken into.

Twenty-seven-year-old Andre McKenzie of Fosmore Drive in May Pen, Clarendon, has been charged with house breaking and larceny following an incident at a premises on Perth Road in Mandeville, Manchester, on Saturday, February 7.

Reports from the Mandeville Police are that about 11:00 a.m., a caretaker securely locked the premises and left. Later that day, an alarm was triggered, prompting security personnel to respond to the location.

On arrival, it was discovered that a rear grille had been forced open and several items stolen from the house. The police were notified and an investigation was launched.

During checks of the premises, lawmen reportedly recovered the stolen items along with a knapsack. Inside the bag, investigators allegedly found identification belonging to McKenzie.

Based on the discovery, the police carried out further enquiries and later located McKenzie in a neighbouring community, where he was arrested and taken into custody. The recovered items were subsequently positively identified by the complainant.

On Monday, February 9, McKenzie reportedly gave a caution statement in the presence of two Justices of the Peace, admitting to committing the offence. He was later formally charged.

His court date is being finalised.
